This shizzle is about to get real. Spring is swinging in and birds are arriving. I’ve been scouring locally and in the Flathead and Mission Valleys, adding 9 species since March 9. That rate is about to change with a visit to Freezout Lake this weekend along with a host of possibilities along the way and on the return.
Made a wonderful 3 dip trip to the Flathead: Glaucous-winged Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull and Iceland Gull (Thayers). Those were fun dips though, wading through the ankle deep mud on the North shore of Flathead Lake in a chilly drizzle, even taking a fall onto my ass and ending up coated!
It’s also time to find….Boreal Owl! Stay tuned!

What a thrill and joy to be rewarded with these beautiful sightings.
Hope you remain safe and on your dry feet.
